Health Tips
Preventing Colon Cancer
Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in the country and the second leading cause of cancer death. However, it is also one of the easiest cancers to prevent with a healthy lifestyle, preventive screenings and early detection.
Adults age 50 and older should have a routine screening colonoscopy – an exam of the lower digestive system – once every 10 years, as part of your preventive health plan, and earlier if you have a family history of colon cancer or risk factors such as diabetes. It’s a simple step to safeguard your health.
Endo Capsule "Pill Cam"
Capsule endoscopy is a diagnostic examination, performed by easily swallowing the endo capsule - the size of a vitamin - with a glass of water. It captures two images per second as it travels through the digestive system for approximately eight hours. This sedation-free exam allows the physician to review data for abnormalities and the patient can go about normal daily activities during the exam. There is no exposure to radiation, no need to drink contrast and minimal discomfort.
Hepatitis C Treatment
The goal of hepatitis C treatment is to suppress the virus to the point where it becomes undetectable for a long period of time. Achieving a sustained virologic response (SVR) is dependent on what type of hepatitis C virus is diagnosed and if you have other diseases at the same time.
